I’ve always had a think for glasses, especially those that are a little different than usual. So I could not fail to notice the models produced by the Fede Cheti company. Where? On that big global showcase that is Instagram. But let’s start from the beginning.
Want light from glasses
An ancient saying reads “like attracted like” and fits perfectly for this beautiful story we want to tell you, that of the virtual meeting between me and Alessia Fugazzola, owner together with her husband Nicola Zeni, of the Fede Cheti S.r.l. a company headed by Federica Cheti, an artist who dedicated her creativity to the industrial production of furniture and design.
The contact points are several and those that immediately catched the eye to me, it is appropriate to say it, are the passion that unites both for this accessory since childhood when, forced to use lenses, we considered it an element distinctive style and an index of personality, the preference for butterfly shapes and the love of dogs.
So the feeling with Alessia was immediate and I’m very happy to show off a pair of glasses chosen from her Fede Cheti Eyewear collection presented last year at Mido in Milan. At this point it is essential to talk about the other female name behind this story of women, the one that gives the brand its name.
Federica Cheti was born in Savona at the beginning of the last century and moved to Milan very young where she started a creative activity in the textile sector that led her to experiment with weaving techniques, materials, designs, but also to propose variations of colors and ranges of new colors until then. For the cultural background inherent in the brand, the Fede Cheti brand represents a century of design. Artists such as Giò Ponti, Magistretti, Fontana, Brunetta and many others have passed through her Atelier in Milan for collaborations on fabrics dedicated to furniture.
And here other affinities emerge, this time between Alessia Fugazzola and Fede Cheti, considered the Coco Chanel of fabrics, a style icon known for her fabrics. The designs, on the basis of which the fabric was made, have been owned for two decades by the Alessia family, who a couple of years ago decided to revive them and to decline them into a collection of glasses, Alessia’s great passion together with the fabrics.
Not only are the designs of the designer that make up the precious Archive today a constant source of inspiration for Alessia who re-reads its features and reconstructs its settings and contexts to declare them in contemporary shapes and tones, but also the constant research on shapes and colors to be applying to her glasses is in deep harmony with the design work that led Fede Cheti to the realization of her fabrics.
After all, there is a lot in common between the two areas: the fabric is printed, as well as the plate of the glasses, which is then carved and gives the shape to the glasses. There is a lot in common also in terms of production and in the use of color that gives character and personality both in a home and on a face.
From this perspective, the collaboration with Dante Caretti, the undisputed guru of design eyewear in Italy and in the world, was born, which led to the first collection signed Fede Cheti Eyewear, made by the best artisanal production glasses companies of Cadore.
In the glasses, the graphics and designs by Fede Cheti are mentioned in exclusive details, such as the flower of the famous Shonbrunn fantasy that appears in the most iconic models. But in the collection there is also a model that faithfully reproduces a design by Gio Ponti on the acetate print and small metal jewels applied on the front or recalled on the temple.
I like to add that Alessia and her husband Nicola combine their entrepreneurial activity with an intense philanthropic action through the initiatives of the Italian Diabetes Onlus Foundation they founded in 2009, to which goes part of the proceeds from the glasses and which was born with the aim of support research to find a definitive cure for Type 1 Diabetes from which the couple’s second child suffers.
Going back to me and my choice, since I have always brought optical frames and sunglasses, not being able to replace them with contact lenses for prolonged times for a problem of dry eyes, I have made it necessary not only virtue but also pride, wearing character models that stand out and give immediate information about my multifaceted personality.
All this I found in the glasses of Fede Cheti.
I was immediately fascinated by the original and sophisticated proposals, but the choice fell on Paris, a clean and elegant model that stands out on my face thanks to the Nude nuance that was suggested to me by Alessia. I recommend that I appreciated a lot and that it fits well in my desire for light to contrast this dark period, starting with the look on everyday things since the glasses accompany me all day.
