Plasticdelux is a French brand created in the heart of the Sologne region by Xavier Derome and we discovered it thanks to Ottica Moschetta who for a photo shoot offered us the Otto frame of the 100% made in France brand that we fell in love with right from the name that is that of our beloved travel dog!

Otto and Tilda our choices

So we looked around on the plasticdelux.com website and on his Instagram profile, discovering the other products designed by Xavier Derome, with simple but captivating lines, which have definitely conquered us. And we wanted to send a request for collaboration to Xavier who shares two great passions with us: dogs and glasses. How could he say no when one of his frames bears the name of our Otto?

So thanks to the intermediation of the Roman agency Deflomas Eyewear, which takes care of the distribution of the Plasticdelux brand here in Italy, we will be able to show off our Otto and Tilda in this hot summer 2021.

Having told the background, let’s talk about Xavier. From an early age he lived in the world of eyewear. In fact, his parents both worked in this industry. But he, while maintaining the family tradition, wanted to make some innovations.

His glasses are characterized by a face-temple assembly without hinge and screws. This riveted joint, similar to the frames, reminds us of the great classics of the telescope. But the reference to the past is not found only in this detail, but also in the retro style of the proposed frames that you wear give “more charisma and symptomatic mystery” as the late Franco Battiato sang in “Bandiera Bianca”.

Plasticdelux

This is the double effect guaranteed by the entire Plasticdelux eyewear collection. The frames combine graphic and geometric proposals with more sinuous and soft silhouettes. And they are all the perfect choice for lovers of sophisticated but effective style.

Like the octagonal frame, hence the name Otto, with a vintage seventies shape and bright colors. Our? In a bright combination of yellow on the front and green on the temples.

The Tilda glasses recall the fifties/sixties, in the elongated shape with the upturned tips that the divas of the time liked so much. The color is very funny, a goose-billed orange, which gives a modern character to a design from yesteryear and brings to mind a fresh summer sorbet.

Both frames perfectly express the philosophy behind Plastic de Lux, which is then already inherent in the brand name: that of making plastic a luxury material through a new way of treating artisan acetate. The glasses are made from a block of material and the faces are deliberately left rough, without polishing, giving an opaque appearance to the frame. The material is cellulose acetate, composed of 70% wood and cotton, natural and eco-sustainable materials. Not only. Plasticdelux glasses are light thanks to both the acetate used and the very thin temples.

So even the most voluminous frames are very light and comfortable and play with two-tone combinations with a contemporary twist that adds to a certain vintage look. The contrast of colors of the frames, from ranunculus yellow with blue branches to pale pink combined with lavender, is inspired by the world of sneakers and continues to enchant in the combinations of blue and green lenses up to the shades of the most chic tradition, from black to amber.

Plasticdelux

Another plus not to be underestimated is that Plasticdelux glasses, despite having a strong stylistic identity and being made of top quality materials, are accessible to everyone. In fact, thanks to the elimination of the production processes linked to the insertion of hinges and small parts, to the tumbling and polishing of the acetate sheets, it has been possible to contain the price and this type of production gives the glasses a unique, accessible but great design!

Speaking of design, Xavier also cares a lot about the cases that are not the usual ones: made of the same fabric used for the wetsuits, they have the shape of diving gloves. Fun to look at the faces of anyone who sees the scabbard in the bag and thinks about how eccentric someone can be carrying diving gloves around town!

But how did we want to “interpret” these pastel-colored glasses perfect for the summer and to wear for a new vision full of energy?

Plasticdelux

Associating them with a legendary French car, the Citroën Méhari, which has become a symbol of freedom for several generations: just looking at it does one think of the holidays, the sea, the revolution of customs that affected society between the end of the sixties and the beginning of the seventies.

She is also French, but the similarities do not end there, because if Xavier made acetate sexy and precious today, in that period it was ABS that made the Méhari unique and inimitable, which was defined as the plastic off-road vehicle, precisely the material of these “special” creations.

A car that has been in my dreams since I was a child and who knows that they may not come true sooner or later! For now I continue to dream of driving a Méhari perhaps on the dunes of our Puglia, with the sea in the background in the golden light of twilight. Could you imagine a more beautiful scenario than this for Plasticdelux’s Otto and Tilda eyewear?
