And just like a manor that seems to be drawn on one of these children’s books, the Hotel Castello Monticello features a beautiful yellow-colored and two cobbled towers that stand out between the green of the garden and the blue sea of the island on which it faces.
Located in a picturesque elevated position on the wonderful Giglio Island in the Tuscan Archipelago, Castello Monticello has been there for about a century to “control” the road that leads from Giglio Porto to Giglio Castello.
It was built in mid-1920 as a private residence of a Gigliese family returning from far America who wanted this home to look like fairytale castles, those who fascinate us as children where princes and princesses live.
And if the desire to live in a castle became reality at the beginning of the last century for that island family, today this dream can be shared thanks to the Rum family who in the mid-60s acquired the small fortress to transform it into Hotel Castello Monticello, a refined residence that has kept its elegant architecture intact over time, welcoming its guests a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a simple and pleasant décor.
Who welcomes guests as we are Tommaso Rum, nephew of who bought the little castle and then turned it into one of the most beautiful accommodation on the Giglio island. Tommaso is prodigal of advice, what to see and what to do at Giglio, and will conquer you with his smile and his sympathy.
Returning to the hotel, it is located a short distance from the beaches, in a unique location where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Giannutri and Monte Argentario.
The Hotel Castello Monticello offers its guests 29 rooms, many of them with sea views, and a large dining room with large stained glass windows where you can admire the crystal clear waters of the underlying coves and where a rich breakfast is served in the morning and in the evening a la carte dinner or a fixed menu for half board guests, with sea and land specialties and with particular attention to local produce.
