N’Art Suites, a guest house in the heart of Naples, is the perfect place for those who want to enjoy the city on foot. Housed in one of the most beautiful period buildings overlooking Piazza Garibaldi, right in front of the statue representing the hero of the Two Worlds, the seven rooms represent an ideal landing place for those arriving in the city by train since it is two steps from the Central Station.
Seven rooms dedicated to the arts
But even those like us who reach the Neapolitan city by car can enjoy the convenience of the many car parks and garages in the area, being able to move easily to all the areas of greatest interest both on foot and by bus and underground. In recent years, the area has been redeveloped while not losing, in the streets around the square, the all-Neapolitan veracity of excellent trattorias and pizzerias that offer local delicacies at more than honest prices.
In addition, N’Art Suites, born in 2019 from an idea of Alice and Luca, is the right choice for those traveling with their dog. And it can’t be otherwise since they both love dogs. And they also love their city very much and are very committed to promoting it by suggesting to those staying at N’Art Suites monuments and museums to visit and places to taste the specialties of traditional cuisine and of course the best pizza!
Guests have access to a bright common room where they can stop for a do-it-yourself breakfast of coffee, tea, herbal teas, brioches, fruit juices, rusks and jam, or to read a book or simply to admire the fabulous panorama that sweeps from the imposing cone of Vesuvius to the island of Capri in the background of the gulf.
Speaking of books, there are books in every corner: Alice has embraced the philosophy of bookcrossing allowing guests of N’Art Suites to exchange their books, donating those already read and taking those to read or buying them at a modest price to take them away with you.
The guest house is located on the fifth floor of the building and can be reached with a comfortable lift, but bring coins because, except for weekends and certain time slots during weekdays, 10 cents must be inserted for each descent and ascent.
The rooms are furnished in a simple but functional way and each one is equipped not only with every comfort, such as WI-FI connection, flat-screen TV, hot/cold air conditioning, tea and coffee corner, private bathroom, courtesy set and hairdryer, but of its own character that refers to the arts through which the city of Naples has been built, described and narrated over the centuries: from literature to writing, from cinema to travel, from music to photography.
Many unique vintage pieces scattered here and there that characterize common areas and rooms dedicated to hospitality. In ours Luca’s beautiful black and white photos depicting some of the symbols of the city and two vintage cameras to remind you that the room, the largest of all, is dedicated to photography.
The structure, welcoming and bright, invites you to rest and at the same time to enjoy a suspended time to treat yourself with an afternoon break between a tour and another above and below Naples as we did, sipping a tea accompanied by an exquisite puff pastry (sfogliatella frolla).
Where to buy it? Also in this case Luca’s advice comes to the rescue, who directed us to the historic Lauri pastry shop recently taken over by the younger generation of the family who have opened the doors to halal versions of sfogliatelle and typical Neapolitan sweets, suitable for consumption according to the dictates of Muslim religion. Don’t be surprised because the area, the Vicaria district also known as Vasto, is populated by many immigrants and the Antica Pasticceria Lauri has become a point of reference for the Islamic community while remaining a safe haven for those who appreciate more traditional desserts.
Also for dinner we followed the instructions of Luca who made us discover delicious corners of Naples in the Piazza Garibaldi area not yet contaminated by tourism which is present but not intrusive. We went to see Marilena Amoroso in her Trattoria Da Donato where she carries the banner of the tradition of Neapolitan cuisine high enough to be the only one in the city awarded with the Slow Food snail. And we enjoyed Franco Gallifuoco’s light-as-a-cloud pizza right in front of the station.
And if you want to take a little bit of Naples with you before leaving, Alice and Luca have also thought of this with handcrafted souvenirs ranging from the original T-shirts to the cheerful colored plaster balloons that decorate the walls of the common room.
You just have to contact Alice and Luca who will be happy to welcome you and help you plan your perfect experience in the city or to discover the treasures of Campania.
And you will be happy to have made the right choice as demonstrated by the loyal customers who often return to N’Art Suites and as we were together with our pampered Otto.
