When you arrive at Torre San Giovanni along the kilometer-long promenade and you reach the holiday home La Maison Blue Salento you immediately understand why the owner Maria Domenica Malagnino wanted to call so her structure.

In fact, facing the view stretches over the intense blue of the sea and La Maison Blue is located halfway between two of the most beautiful sea places in the area, whose charm is enriched by popular legends to which they owe their names. Very often suggestions and popular legends make the places of Salento even more wonderful and evocative, if ever there was a need, pushing those who visit them to discover the stories and traditions of territories that combine scenic beauty and millenarian folklore.
The small Baia dei Diavoli is one of these places, close to the welcoming structure that overlooks the coastline: here you can at the same time immerse yourself in the legends and spectacular crystal clear waters.
The Bay owes its name to an ancient legend according to which one of the ships of Pyrrhus, sank in the sea in front of it during the trip to the war against Taranto. The ancient inhabitants, having never seen the impressive elephants that were on board the ships, gave him the nickname of “devils”!
Another version, which we learn as always greedy for history and local stories, reports that the name is due to the fact that this rocky inlet has the highest coast and the deepest sea of Salento, crossed by cold currents: a place so soaked of mystery and unknown.
In addition, several “potholes”, rocky cavities caused by erosion and by the “whirling” action of the sea, connect to underwater caves: the deafening gurgling of the waters rising from the depths makes the Baia dei Diavoli an even more “scary” place.
In the Bay a 6 meter high rocky platform is often used by the most adventurous to dive into the crystal clear water of the inlet, whose sandy bottom is 4 meters deep.
Returning to Torre San Giovanni, the coast is low and rocky, full of rocks almost inaccessible and partly rendered completely smooth by the action of the sea, almost to form platforms on which to sunbathe.
Almost at the border with the country, the largest seaside village of Ugento, which some would like founded by the Cretans but which developed thanks to the Messapians becoming a strategic port for commercial exchange with other Mediterranean civilizations, is the island of Pazze, immersed in a sea with blue-green reflections not far from the high karst dunes covered with cuddy juniper patches.
Also on this denomination legends are wasted. One wants it to take its name from the peace treaty, pax precisely, stipulated on the island between the Messapians and the city of Taranto. Another narrates that Pirro, king of Epiro, rushing to the rescue of Taranto in the fight against Rome remained stranded with all his ships in the “Secche Ugentine” that since then became the “Secche di Pirro”.
Going through the whole country you will then come to what is now considered the greatest attraction of Torre San Giovanni: the kilometer stretch of fine sand like talcum powder and very white that contrasts with a sea so transparent as to seem water to drink.

The structure is divided into three apartments each with its own terrace overlooking the sea, open to the golden rays of the sun and fresh sea breezes.
After a day of sun and sea it is very pleasant to return to a comfortable home designed to ensure guests a comfortable stay. Here you really feel at home and we, with our Otto, stayed in the studio apartment with indoor and outdoor dining area and a fully equipped kitchenette.
The cottage is equipped with flat screen TV, barbecue, air conditioning, washing machine, wi-fi and table, bed and bath kit for two guests plus one that can take advantage of the sofa bed.
The same facilities are provided in the other two larger apartments, a two-room apartment and a three-room apartment. The first can accommodate 4 people, the second up to 7 people being complete with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. In all animals are admitted that are much loved by the owners who have pampered Otto since our arrival.
For those traveling with friends “hairy” ideal the coast right in front of the structure formed by small rocky areas in the coves of which is easy to find a place to sunbathe and take a bath in the company of the four legs even in full season.
