Il Glicine is a suite created in a typical Salento house in one of the most beautiful historical centers in all of Puglia, that of Ruffano. A few steps from the works of art of the mother church and the Byzantine crypts of the ancient center of the village.
Suite in the heart of the village
Here Pamela Maglie bought piece by piece what has become her home which she had fallen in love with since she was a girl, when she was walking through the streets of the village enchanted by the town she would have chosen as hers.
The suite, large and independent, is part of a building that stands out white among the golden stone of the village, confusing those who arrive for the first time. In fact, it looks like a small corner of Greece with blue doors and windows and white walls on which bougainvillea and wisteria, which gives the structure its name, climb, giving the whole a very pleasant chromatic harmony. It’s not a casuality. Because Pamela is in love with the atmosphere of the Greek islands and wanted to bring it back here with a light but convincing touch, which goes well with the Salento baroque notes that characterize the village.
On the ground floor there is her laboratory, which opens into a small courtyard which is accessed through an arch, and the independent space that Pamela, who paints, restores, creates jewels in eco-sustainable materials and who knows something about atmosphere, has made available to her guests. While she and her family live on the second floor and are always discreetly present so that those who choose Il Glicine for their holidays do not miss anything.
The pretty and private suite, comfortable and welcoming, is furnished with the furniture of the past, and the flowers, books and objects created by Pamela scattered here and there, make you feel at home. Certainly not in any home, but that of an eclectic artist who expresses herself with ceramics but also with oils, watercolors, copper and papier-mâché. You must visit her studio with the oven to bake terracotta and the lathe, her latest passion, in plain sight.
Part of the suite is an enchanting exclusive terrace overlooking the square, which is accessed by an external staircase and where you can have breakfast or enjoy a romantic evening in the cool of the evening.
The space intended for hospitality has been recently renovated and under the beautiful star vault there is no shortage of cold or hot air conditioner, stove, refrigerator, kettle and the essentials also for independent dinners. The bathroom is also large and comfortable, with a spacious shower and everything you need for a pleasant stay.
The interior can be defined as “sensory” as each element has been carefully chosen, with vintage pieces and Pamela’s artistic works that stand out in a deliberately neutral envelope, created with a wooden shell that partially covers the walls, while the old floor with beautiful cement tiles and Lecce stone inserts in the walls have been preserved.
A decisive taste that serves to give a feeling of belonging to the urban context in which we find ourselves, giving those who enter, crossing the glass door tinted in an intense blue that emerges from the white of the facade, the right atmosphere to enjoy a holiday for two in the height of summer but also at other times of the year and even with a furry third wheel: here even the four-legged bulky like Otto are welcome and find their space.
Before leaving, a visit to the small underground oil mill that develops under the house and that Pamela has transformed into a spectacular showroom of her creations and those of other artists in the exhibitions set up in the highly suggestive spaces dug into the rock that unfolds they open into each other is not to be missed.
