Otto dogfriendlyIn the most authentic area of Naples, that of the Rione Sanità, on the busy Via Foria opens a large door, which through a hallway of a building as there are many in these parts, leads to a staircase that already on the first floor reserves a beautiful surprise. In fact, an iron gate hides the entrance to an airy garden, which gives an added value to the bright and warm universe already represented by the B&B The Foria House, furnished as if it were a retro-style home.

Feel at home in Naples

One of the reasons why we chose this cozy structure was just that: the green area, where there is no lack of hammock and chairs, is in fact available to guests of the house and for us very comfortable for the morning and evening needs of the our Otto, we confess, we have more than once accompanied in pajamas in the short journey.

Another reason was the immediate friendliness of Carlo, one of the three owners of this bedandbreakfast together with Richard and Roberto, taken from the first contact phone calls.

The structure, which has four rooms, each with private bathroom, TV and air conditioning, is located, as already said in an old building.

The house has a classic system with a small entrance that opens directly onto a large informal living room in the middle of which stands a tall counter that serves as a reception.

All rooms are full of atmosphere, furnished with objects and things bought a bit ‘here and a bit’ there and even left by previous owners.

As Carlo tells us: “As for the furniture, it was not enough because this place is already inhabited. It has a special atmosphere, we did not need to fill it to give it a soul supplement. The garden view is beautiful in all seasons and this is already a decoration. And regarding the furniture and objects, selected and purchased after careful research conducted in local markets or on online auction sites, we like that they have a story to tell, that give emotions”.

Our room is the largest, the junior suite that can accommodate 5 people and has a mezzanine with two single beds and a bright veranda overlooking the garden.

Also the quadruple next to ours has a mezzanine with two single beds and overlooks the garden. Then there are the two rooms that face the main street: another quadruple and a spacious triple room with a balcony.

The house also boasts a large kitchen and a breakfast area, where guests can enjoy fruit, sweet and savory snacks, biscuits and some drinks, while the others are included in the honesty bar. All rooms are characterized by high ceilings, restored fixtures that make them silent and ancient “riggiole”, the typical Neapolitan tiles that characterize the rooms.

With the old doors, no longer usable as such, the bed backs were created, to accommodate the information material a typographic drawer unit is used and also the reception and kitchen furniture are made of recycled material.

At The Foria House you immediately have a feeling of home and not only for the warmth of the rooms, but especially for the friendliness and hospitality of Carlo, who does not skimp advice on how to better enjoy the city, and Flavia, who in the morning welcomes guests with his beautiful smile and the tasty breakfast. And we felt so comfortable that we settled in the room in pajamas: what has never been done anywhere before!

The same atmosphere, at the same time refined and warm, you can breathe at the Borgo Vergini Garden B&B, in one of the most ancient districts of the city, in a typical popular building a few steps from Porta San Gennaro. Here too, the presence of a romantic garden overlooks the rooms of the B&B furnished in a simple and functional but in perfect harmony with the typical Neapolitan atmosphere. Four rooms, with feminine names referring to the Neapolitan tradition: Carmela, Sofia, Titina and Filomena.

A special mention deserves the welcome to Otto who was very pampered by Carlo and Flavia. In this regard it should be emphasized that in both structures dogs, even those as large as ours, since the space is internal and external is not lacking, they are welcome.

To conclude: we followed all Carlo’s advice on what to see, where to eat, where to spend the evening and where to buy the tastiest specialties. And we made him a promise. We will return in late summer to enjoy another unmissable experience, that of the exclusive boat tour organized in partnership with SeaSideNapoli for Capri, Ischia and Procida, on board with Carlo and Marco, expert sailors, who will not fail to make us appreciate the city from the sea and the beauty of the most famous islands in the world.
