A story of deep love for a land and a house that of Maria Luisa De Guidi who discovered the Salento land of origin of her husband’s family and has never forgotten its scents and colors but also the ancestral rhythms, far from the chaos of the city , that this strip of Italy can still keep.
Charme and relax in the heart of Salento
And so a few years ago she bought this farm located in the heart of Salento a few miles from Gallipoli, in the countryside of Sannicola. Abandoned for years it has been brought back to life as Tenuta Mosè and named in honor of the grandfather who bore this name.
The farm with its geometric shape, both strong and castle-like, the large rusticated portal and the airy succession of spaces, was an ancient country house belonging to a noble family of the area and called Villa Costa. Today, after the careful restoration work that respected the pre-existing volumes and the harmonious play of the vaults, at the same time inserting the indispensable services, it is an elegant aristocratic residence.
Rooms and lounges are furnished with antique furniture, pieces of art and craftsmanship, precious marbles, statues, Murano chandeliers and precious mirrors. The airy rooms are made even more elegant and refined by the floral decorations on the walls that also decorate the suites. The sofas and upholstered furniture invite to converse, to read and to listen to the music pleasantly diffused in all the common areas by day and by night.
Six suites: four on the ground floor with the name reminiscent of the dominant color and with a neoclassical style swimming pool and large exposed shower and two, larger on the top floor, the Mistral and Libeccio Penthouse, with two pools, one inside and one outside, and large terraces from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the garden and the surrounding countryside.
The suite that welcomed us and our Otto? The Persian Lapis, from the elegant blue atmosphere and with comfortable and strategic access to the garden for those traveling with four legs in tow.
Same atmosphere of quiet in the large garden where fruit trees, essences, colors and traditional fragrances of the place have been kept, mixed with palms, old roses, lavender and rosemary.
In the center stands the large swimming pool on which an ancient frescoed thinkboard is mirrored. Around almost five hectares of vineyards and olive groves that guarantee an excellent wine and oil produced for guests and also a bio vegetable garden from which vegetables arrive directly on the table.
Il Petrosino restaurant, also open to those who do not stay in the Estate, is a bright and welcoming glass volume with minimalist and Mediterranean decor with antique touches, warm and careful hospitality with Salento cuisine that recovers dishes and atmospheres of the past.
Breakfast is served outdoors in the well-kept and luxuriant garden during the summer, while the antique kitchen with large fireplace welcomes guests to the warmth of the crackling fire in the most rigid mornings.
Cuddles are guaranteed in the SPA suite “Le Càriti” between turkish bath with chromotherapy and jacuzzi, but they are doubled for Valentine’s Day and for every weekend until April 15th with the “Salento Romantico” package, ideal for a two-seater getaway of well-being and a stay of total rest with special care for the couple, from the ritual of shaving for him, to the relaxation massage for her.
The beard according to tradition is by the barber Alessandro Bardoscia who with unmistakable and skilful gestures transforms this ritual into a moment of refined well-being, punctuated by various phases, alternating pre-shaving oil, warm shaving cloth, cream and massage with a soothing, softening and moisturizing action.
The package includes the arrival on Friday with a delicious welcome drink and a walk in the old town of Gallipoli, to discover the most evocative corners: from the churches of the Confraternities to the fortress buildings along the Nazario Sauro Riviera, from the Baroque Cathedral of Sant’Agata to hypogean oil mills. The Saturday awakening is with the sounds of nature, the scent of a rich breakfast of pies, cakes, pasticciotti and fresh fruit and then the pampering of the barber for him and the massage for her.
In the afternoon, relax in the “Le Càriti” SPA Suite, including a Turkish bath with chromotherapy and a jacuzzi, and then take refuge in one of the many corners of the house reading a book, listening to music, lazing in absolute silence or in the Club House, in the background of scenes of an ancient garden painted on the walls, drinking tea, a good coffee or enjoying a selection of liqueurs and cocktails, greeted by the seductive notes of an old gramophone.
Sunday, before leaving, you reach the bay of Gallipoli and, if time permits, we walk among fossil dunes and centuries-old pine forests to discover the unique habitat of the Regional Natural Park “Isola di Sant’Andrea and Litorale di Punta Pizzo” or alternatively visit Galatina, including rich portals and baroque churches, until you discover the Basilica of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, in Romanesque-Gothic style, completely frescoed, an authentic masterpiece.
