A verdant expanse of olive trees that contrasts with the intense blue of the Sicilian sky, forms the backdrop to an inviting infinity pool. This is the business card of the Momentum Wellness Bio Resort, an oasis of well-being with tastefully furnished rooms created in a traditional Sicilian baglio completely renovated a few kilometers from the archaeological area of Selinunte.
A few kilometers from Selinunte
Parking, WiFi, spa, fitness area, bio restaurant with 0 km products, solarium terraces, a life path among the trees and an excellent breakfast to start the day, complete the offer of this resort in Marinella di Selinunte, a hamlet of Castelvetrano, in the heart of western Sicily.
We ended our holiday here in the land of Sicily and we could not have chosen better to spend the last days between relaxing in the small and intimate spa, which guests can freely use, and the gastronomic pampering of the Agorà restaurant in which to enjoy the heritage of genuine traditional flavors proposed by chef Ciccio Gallo.
Since breakfast, based on fresh milk, coffee, tea, juices and fruit centrifuged, yoghurt, seasonal fruit, organic jams, honey, biscuits, cereals, as well as eggs, cheeses, cold cuts and the inevitable cannoli and cassatelle with ricotta prepared daily by the chef.
At dinner, in the restaurant with a warm atmosphere, we particularly appreciated the recipes prepared as reinterpretations of typical dishes with original combinations, combining local flavors with ingredients from cuisines from around the world together with vegetables and aromatic herbs grown in the resort’s vegetable garden and with organic raw materials with low environmental impact, mostly from the Valley of the Temples of Selinunte where there is an extraordinary gastronomic tradition ranging from fish to citrus fruits, from meat to fruit, to the perfumed bread made with the flour of ancient grains, which we took away with us as a fragrant and tasty souvenir.
Together with the fruit of Martorana that we packaged with our own hands during the course held by chef Ciccio Gallo: we have the task of creating the fruits in real almond paste, also called marzipan, with the help of the wooden forms and then that of paint them with food coloring, to make them look as much as possible to real specimens.
The original recipe has never changed since, around the 13th-14th century, it was imported by the Arabs to Sicily. In Palermo, the oldest and most famous preparation is the one that was packaged by the nuns in the convent attached to the church of Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio, better known just as La Martorana, prepared for the holidays in honor of the deceased.
In the same period the new oil is celebrated and we were able to taste a menu created for the occasion based on that produced on the estate, with an appetizer based on saffron potato fudge, poached egg, grilled Jerusalem artichoke and chicory, followed by a spaghetti creamed with oil and toasted tomato and veal with onions, celery and roasted carrots, to finish sweetly with an almond ricotta mousse on persimmon soup.
This would be enough to feel in paradise!
The large internal courtyard with large protective walls is accessed through a large entrance door: you feel protected and pampered in such a structure.
This wonderful place, close to the Foce del Belice and neighboring Dunes Nature Reserve, is a baglio, one of the traditional houses of the past spread in agricultural Sicily, with walls made of stone, fragrant gardens and citrus groves.
Transformed last year into a place of style such as Momentum Wellness Bio Resort boasts a careful attention to detail and 22 of the most modern rooms and suites, divided between the ground and first floors, with flat-screen TV, WiFi and designer furnishings. Some have access from the internal courtyard, others have a private garden and others still enjoy the view of the Temples of Selinunte.
Our? We shared with our Otto the one dedicated to the Sicilian director Giuseppe Tornatore, winner of the Oscar for best foreign film with Nuovo Cinema Paradiso. In fact, in the resort pets are allowed, on request and at no extra charge, and in the room there are bowls and rugs.
The cordial and discreet welcome, combined with the professionalism of the staff, make your stay at the Momentum a truly pleasant experience, completed by the possibility of enjoying the evening, with a small extra cost, of a couple of hours of pure wellness exclusively in the Jacuzzi for 6 people, in the sauna, in the Turkish bath and in the relaxation area where you can taste herbal teas to purify your body and free your mind.
Afterwards it is nice to enjoy the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere of the bar while sipping a drink, a local beer or a glass of wine or simply having a chat with the other guests and leafing through a magazine listening to the music in the background.
