Antonio and Vincenzo, always been friends, immediately fell in love with this house with an anonymous façade, a space of 65 square meters of which they had already perceived the potential to transform it into a Mater Casa Vacanza.

A nest house in Matera

MaterIn fact, if the house is located in the historic center of Matera a few steps from the Sassi and the cathedral, is in an area where it is easy to arrive by car and nearby parking is available for a fee or free.

Further and interesting added value for us, the proximity to the Villa Comunale that allows you to stretch legs to four-legged friends in the morning, perhaps taking advantage of a stop cappuccino and croissant at the historic Bar Pasticceria Schiuma or Di Bitonto Caffe hosted in homonymous boutique.

Mater

In this house that since the name chosen, Mater, refers not only to the city where it is also a concept of womb and is as welcoming as a nest, thanks to the renovation has been recovered part of the original local terracotta flooring and the wall of tufa that makes a scenic backdrop to the exposed pool that can not be resisted! The pleasant bath between so much foam gives relaxation after the walk in that great open-air museum that is the city of Matera.

Mater

Where it has not been possible to recover it, the floor has been integrated with light wooden parquet planks that contributes to the warmth of the environment and goes perfectly with the furniture in which every detail has been designed to make the opposites talk: a typically contemporary mix & match that the owners have chosen to furnish this renovated nest home without touching the original plant. Here the modern coexists with the old, creating a sophisticated and never invasive style.

To decorate this simple container that has kept the original fixtures starting with the entrance door in carved solid wood, it has also been played with modern furniture and design pieces. The house has no door, except the one that closes the comfortable and spacious bathroom, but is divided into two areas, one dedicated to relaxation with sofa, TV and kitchen and the other at rest.

The sleeping area, the most intimate space, even if it is not closed, is enveloping, and behind a white wall hides a small walk-in closet, while in front of the bed there is the design bathtub that emerges from the terracotta floor.

In the living area, beyond the kitchenette complete with burners, sink and refrigerator, there are a table and a sofa bed to watch TV comfortably and that can accommodate two other guests if necessary.

The desire of those who wanted to create this nest was to create an oasis of peace in the city, a place that even if passing through, would make those who live it and choose it for their holidays. And Antonio and Vincenzo were perfectly successful thanks to the help of Rosaria, Antonio’s wife and interior designer.

Throughout the apartment there is the hand of Rosaria, which acts as a counterpoint to the historicity of the structure, has introduced modern touches and designed elements such as the lamp on the living room table and the linere and clean kitchen with the long masonry floor leaning against the wall decorated with cementine that refer to traditional local materials.

Mater

Many pieces that give character to this house with choices between design and artistic craftsmanship are designed by her. All original with regard to the “shell” and all mixed art with well-balanced contrasts inside with elements that create a misleading effect that goes beyond space and time and leads to a place without context where you feel to home. Because the most welcoming element is the surprise!
