It’s already an emotion to walk in Alberobello through the streets uphill of the districts Monti and Aia Piccola, between whitewashed trulli and hoods in gray “chiancarelle” that seem residences of gnomes and elves and that already Cesare Brandi described “as a festive round of children”. But even more exciting it is to live there, albeit briefly, turning the key in the keyholes of small doors and feeling at home…
This is the feeling you get walking through the door of the mansion of Trullidea Albergo Diffuso that for almost twenty years are made available to those travelers who want to go beyond the bite and run of a quick visit and try to live a trullo. Greeted by Margot ad Francesca Barnaba, which for three years running this structure created by their father Dino, in the hotel reception where are also housed the large breakfast room and a living area with comfortable sofas and wifi, we are immediately put at ease, inclusive Arturo that here became acquainted with the shy and tender puppy named Giulio. Singular history of these places, now used to host, but until a few decades ago rooms of an oven called of Christ because of a statue, perhaps of papier-mache, which still occupies a large niche within them.
After the presentations, we are ready to take possession of “our” Trullo, in the most authentic area of Monti district at the top of Via Monte Pasubio. Upon entering, we feel at home: cozy the living room, a trulletto with wooden loft, where we stop to take a nice hot tea. It’s the spontaneity that makes this place special, with the furnishings of recovery, pickled or with the signs of aging, which break the whiteness of the walls. There is not a recipe explaining how right now going into places like these you reach a mysterious balance that brings immediate comfort. Perhaps, we are told, is because the trulli fit very naturally with the passage of time, never become unfashionable.
Our “Trullino” Tristidd, named after the bed typical of the trulli, is among those Exclusive Trullidea with a large outdoor area and pool. But there are many types available to guests: from the Trulli Typical, all located in the monumental area, which house two to three people, to the Trulli Admirable, wider, two to four beds with a spacious living area. Then there are the Exclusive Trulli. Our, which we have already spoken, located in the city center with large entrance composed dining room and living room, bedroom and large bathroom, and “Canèle”, a relaxing house ideal for four / five people, composed of trulli. Overlooking a magnificent view and is not far from the town. Outdoors there is a large space and private parking, within there are a large entrance hall, living room, master bedroom and three other beds on the mezzanine, comfortable kitchen with fireplace and bathroom.
Once back in the little house on the top of the Monti district, after evening stroll among the trulli made even more impressive by the blanket of fog that had enveloped everything dampening noises and confusing lines of walls and streets, we feel again welcomed like in a nest warm and comfortable. The underfloor heating ensures a pleasant warmth up in the morning when the time comes to leave our Trullino. We do it with a bit of melancholy but Margot and Francesca are waiting for us at the reception for the tasty and filling breakfast which is also admitted Arturo: here in Trullidea furry friends can follow their masters everywhere!
