The agricultural landscape of Puglia is dotted with farms that mark the territory and with their masonry structures as Trulli and stone walls, and through the presence of round bales of fodder scattered over the fields. Walking at a slow pace, on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, to the country roads you will come across many farms still active and witnesses of an agricultural tradition tied to the cycles of time and nature.
Here some of our suggestions of farms in operation with productions of meats, cheeses, olive oil and agricultural products, which in some cases can also be directly consumed on the spot at the tables of rustic rooms inside them.
Between Putignano and Gioia del Colle there is the Azienda Agricola Spartaglio (SC Spartaglio, 3 – Putignano, +39 080 4057989 – Gianfranco +39 333 6149355 – Giuseppe +39 327 0844968) in which the family Giotta, in addition to breed horses, cows and donkeys since the ’50s, has today opened among its walls of fortified farm dating back to 1616, a firm butcher (only Friday and Saturday from 8.30 to 12.30 and from 16.00 to 20.00). Here the young Gianfranco and Giuseppe Giotta, together with their parents, take care of 15 Murgesi horses, among which stands Plinio for height and girth, the 15 years old stallion, 20 impressive beef cows of Limousine breed and 20 donkeys of Martina Franca. On reservation you can also eat in the cozy dining rooms decorated in a rustic way: vegetables appetizers, dairy products, pickles, dishes with homemade pasta and grilled meat. The farm also has a stud public and provides training in the saddle of foals with English riding. For smaller instead walking tours in donkey’s pace through the streets of the country, excursions with asinobus and onotherapy with little donkeys to learn to communicate and socialize, by the Cultural Association “The sheep-tracks of donkey” (via A. Nearby, in the district Femminamorta, there is the Agriturismo Pedone (SC Femminamorta, 31 – Putignano, +39 080 4057988 – +39 338 3251493 – +39 333 3305124 – firstname.lastname@example.org), where there is a wing that houses a large dining room where you can sample traditional recipes prepared with vegetables, sausages, dairy products, cheeses and fruit that are produced on site and the other in which they are raised around 150 dairy cattle, pigs and goats.
